LOS ANGELES — Live Nation has partnered with virtual reality (VR) streaming startup NextVR to stream hundreds of concerts and other events to users of VR headsets. The first concert will be streamed this summer, and both companies plan to release a full schedule later this year.

Users will be able to watch converts through the NextVR app on the Oculu Rift headset as well as Samsung’s Gear VR headset. NextVR plans expand availability of its apps to additional platforms soon.

The partnership is a big win for NextVR, which has made itself a name for streaming boxing matches, golf tournaments and even political debates in VR.

The startup recently raised a US$30.5 million (S$41.43 million) Series B round of funding from Comcast, Time Warner and others.

NextVR was able to strike a multi-year deal for music events with Live Nation. There is no word on whether either company eventually aims to charge for these live streams; however, virtual concerts delivered to consumers in their living rooms are certainly an intriguing new business proposition for the music industry.
