‘Me and Mrs Jones’ singer Billy Paul dead at age 80
NEW YORK — Billy Paul, the soul singer best known for the No 1 hit ballad Me and Mrs Jones, has died.

NEW YORK — Billy Paul, the soul singer best known for the No 1 hit ballad Me and Mrs Jones, has died.
Paul’s co-manager, Beverly Gay, told The Associated Press that Paul died Sunday (April 24) at his home in Blackwood, New Jersey. Gay says Paul was 80 and had been diagnosed recently with pancreatic cancer.
Paul was one of many artists who had success with the Philadelphia-based writing and production team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.
Me and Mrs Jones, a seductively arranged confession to an extramarital affair, was released in 1972 and won a Grammy for best rhythm `n blues male vocal performance. The song was by far his biggest hit, although he did have some success with Let’s Clean Up the Ghetto, Thanks for Saving My Life and other releases. AP
