Meet Nathan Hartono’s competition

SINGAPORE – Call us biased, but we really, really want Nathan Hartono to win Sing! China.

SINGAPORE – Call us biased, but we really, really want Nathan Hartono to win Sing! China.

After all, the 25-year-old singer attained the highest score during the semi-finals episode of the popular Chinese reality singing competition, and is the only member of Jay Chou’s team to qualify for the finals tonight (Oct 7). Plus, he’s the only Singaporean to have made it this far in the history of the show, which was previously known as The Voice Of China.

However, before he gets his hands on the trophy – and on some well-deserved iced Milo – Hartono will have to beat some serious competition. Let’s get acquainted with the other finalists he will have to face tonight:

LEE PEI LING

Lee Pei Ling may be the youngest finalist on Sing! China, but she is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Under the mentorship of Chinese powerhouse singer Na Ying, the Malaysian student’s covers, including Rachel Platten’s Fight Song, Daniel Chan’s The Heart Already Knows and Jeff Chang’s Don’t Tell Him, have garnered nearly seven million views on YouTube. Not bad for a 16-year-old, eh?

WANG CHENRUI

Team Na Ying’s Wang Chenrui from Guangdong has won the hearts of Cantopop fans. She is perhaps best known for delivering Eason Chan’s Love Transfer in pitch perfect Mandarin and Cantonese, and the video of her performance has gotten more than a million views on YouTube.

YANG MEINA

Called China’s Rihanna by Chinese media, Yang Meina blew all four judges of Sing! China away with her rendition of the Barbadian singer’s Diamonds in the first round of the singing competition. The 27-year-old singer, who hails from Jilin in Northeast China, is the only member in Harlem Yu’s team to make it to the finals.

XU GEYANG

20-year-old Xu Geyang from Shenyang in Liaoning, China is a vocal powerhouse. The singer, who is in Wang Feng’s team, dominated the stage in the past with her dramatic renditions of Hua Chenyu’s Rampage and Gala’s Dreamchaser, and it’s likely she will do so again tonight.

JIANG DUNHAO

Jiang Dunhao, also from Team Wang Feng, has a voice that makes us want to lie back and relax with a glass of whisky, or ride a horse through rolling plains. And this may or may not be because the 21-year-old hails from Bortala in Xinjiang. The guitar-toting singer may be a bit of a dark horse to win the competition, but his performances have gotten plenty of attention online.

So who might outshine Hartono tonight? Watch this space.
