Music festival Camp Symmetry reveals full line-up

SINGAPORE — The latest addition to Singapore’s indie music festival scene, Symmetry Entertainment’s Camp Symmetry, has finally announced the full lineup after months of teasing.

At the media event at Windowsill Pies today (Aug 21), 10 musical acts — all of which have yet to perform in Singapore — were announced, including the headliners Explosions In The Sky and Mew. Symmetry says that the festival is aimed a wide audience, with a line-up that stretches from folk singer William Fitzsimmons’ to Aussie indie pop rockers, San Cisco.

Calling Camp Symmetry a “teenage dream come true”, Managing Director of Symmetry Entertainment Timothy Kek says that he has always dreamed of bringing his favourite bands into Singapore because “we have such a huge group of music lovers in Singapore, but no-one seemed to be bringing indie bands in”.

During the press conference, Timothy and co-founder Jean Hui Ng also shared about how personal each act chosen was to them. Explosions In The Sky were the first band the duo ambitiously approached when they started Symmetry Entertainment over a year ago, while William Fitzsimmons and the Cribs were the soundtrack to their growing up years. Lastly, headlining band Mew was the inspiration behind both the company and festival, which are both named after Mew’s song, Symmetry.

The event will be held at the Meadow — Gardens by the Bay on Nov 2, 2013 with the acts playing on a single stage from noon all the way through to midnight. Symmetry Entertainment says that the concept of the festival was inspired by Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, and that besides good music, campers attending the festival can expect fringe activities including beer pong, bouncy castles. More that will be announced in the coming months, say the organisers.
