The Best (Girls’ Generation) | 3/5

SINGAPORE - I’ve always maintained that K-pop groups are better seen than heard and there’s no better example of that than this CD+DVD compilation, which been done for the Japanese market. It’s a collection of their past hits that lean heavily to the more cutesy, EDM end of the dance-pop spectrum, with tracks like Genie, Mr Taxi and Love & Girls. Fans of Girls’ Generation will, of course, lap this up, if only because they have included a DVD that features not just the music videos to the songs on the album, but also live performances, interviews and a behind-the-scenes featurette where the nonet have a jolly good time at the photo shoot for this album’s book. There’s no doubting that the girls are great when it comes to their visual representations of their music - and if you can live with that then, who’s to argue?
