Living For The Weekend (The Saturdays) | 2.5/5

SINGAPORE - The British-Irish all-girl quintet known as The Saturdays are back with their new album, Living In The Weekend, and as the title implies, it’s replete with the sort of party music you’d expect them to perform. You know, the sort of cookie-cutter beats and melodies that the likes of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus have rehashed over and over again. But apparently, there are people who like them enough to send their second single, What About Us, to the top of the British pop charts. But what about the rest? What’s there to like about this album? Well, the girls’ sense of humour for one. Lyrically, they manage to make songs lines like “He already had his milk, so why would he go buy the cow” (from Gentlemen), “I didn’t put this dress on for you to take it off” (Don’t Let Me Dance Alone) and “it’s never winter when it’s Donna Summer all year long” (Disco Love) listenable. It’s not the best album of the year by any means, but it is great as background music for your weekend party, so in that sense, it works.
