Star Climbing (Zoot Woman) | 3.5/5

SINGAPORE — Consisting of producer/songwriter/artist Stuart Price (Madonna, The Killers, Pet Shop Boys, Kylie Minogue) and brothers Johnny (guitar, vocals) and Adam Blake (keyboards), this British electronic pop group serves up everything an indie pop lover would expect — repetitive melodies, minimalist patterns and dance rhythms. Yes, it is all rather cliched and ubiquitous, but at least Zoot Woman writes proper pop tunes that ’90s techno lovers (think: Air & Daft Punk) can appreciate. Prime examples include the infectious Don’t Tear Us Apart, the ironic Rock & Roll Symphony and the epic Elusive. Tastefully constructed to appeal to electronic fans of all ilks — from ’70s Kraftwerk/80s Gary Numan to more contemporary sounds — Star Climbing has something for everyone. Recommended.
