Sweet Talker (Jessie J) | 3.5/5

SINGAPORE – What do you get when you throw in a couple of mesmerising ballads, a sprinkle of punchy electric pop numbers, a drizzle of smooth mid-tempo R&B tracks and impressive vocal stylistics as a garnish? Well, Jessie J’s latest album, Sweet Talker, of course. Jessie J opts for a more restrained and relaxed delivery on this new album, choosing to immerse herself vocally in a song instead of peppering and belting out high notes unnecessarily. The singer seems to be truly in her element when it comes to the up tempo numbers, projecting sass and swagger while having fun in tracks such as Bang Bang (featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj), Ain’t Been Done and the breathy Burnin’ Up (New Mix). She also does exceptionally well in low tempo and acoustic numbers too, showcasing her amazing vocal acrobatics and register in tracks such as Seal Me With A Kiss and You Don’t Really Know Me. Sweet Talker ticks all the boxes on our list as an enjoyable album, it being filled with quite a number of potential hit singles and nary a bad track in sight.
