World Peace Is None Of Your Business (Morrissey) | 4/5

SINGAPORE — Just in case you were wondering what happened to the whole protest music genre, along comes the title track of Morrissey’s latest album. World Peace Is None Of Your Business references recent events in Brazil, Bahrain, Egypt and Ukraine, and he certainly doesn’t mince his words: “World peace is none of your business / Police will stun you with their stun guns / Or they’ll disable you with tasers / That’s what government’s for”.

SINGAPORE — Just in case you were wondering what happened to the whole protest music genre, along comes the title track of Morrissey’s latest album. The rest of the album does not get bogged down in topical songs, however, as Morrissey quickly returns to his favorite subject: Being miserable. From the gypsy folk-inflected Earth Is The Loneliest Planet to the fragile ballad Smiler With Knife to the tragic Staircase At The University, he highlights all that is wrong with modern living in his inimitable, miserablist style. Morrissey’s sonic agenda is suitably eclectic, serving his penetrating lyrics in each and every track. Diehard fans will not be disappointed as he stoutly maintains his legacy. Recommended.
