SINGAPORE - Taiwan singer-actress Pets Tseng is a self-declared super fan of Stefanie Sun. So, of course, the first thing we did when we met her was to show her the selfie we took with the Singaporean star last year.

“Ahh! She’s so cute!” Tseng shrieked during our interview at St Regis Hotel in Singapore, where she is promoting her new album. “I might faint if I actually met her. I admire her not just for her work, but also because of the way she leads her life. I think she is really bold, and she really dares to be herself, like the way she just buys food at MacDonald’s. I think that’s too cool.”

She added: “I care about what other people think about me, so I really admire that Stefanie Sun always knows how to appreciate herself, and how she is always great on stage. That is why I have always looked to her as my idol.”

But this doesn’t mean Tseng will begin stalking fast food chains in Singapore in search of Sun, who is also her label mate at Universal Music. “I don’t want to disturb her. I think she might not like to meet people who are too enthusiastic,” the affable singer quipped.

Though she may sound like the ultimate fan girl, Tseng has actually done pretty well for herself. The star of the popular KO drama series in Taiwan recently released her debut album I’m Pets, after waiting for seven long years in the entertainment industry. Tickets to her mini-concert at Shanghai Dolly in Singapore this weekend were also sold out in eight hours.

“Now, looking back at those seven years, I feel truly blessed,” Tseng said. “As a singer, you sometimes have to work for 12 hours non-stop, and it can get really busy. But I feel really happy to be so busy, because I have finally fulfilled my dream of releasing an album. So I don’t feel like I have lost anything (in those seven years). Instead, I want to grab every opportunity that comes my way.”

Pets Tseng will be holding an autograph session on Friday (Feb 27) from 7.30pm at Bugis Junction, Bugis Square Level 1. More details at http://po.st/PetsASg.
