Sergio Mendes, Karen Mok team up for new song
SINGAPORE — If you haven’t heard enough versions of the 1973 hit Killing Me Softly With His Song, here’s another one.
SINGAPORE — If you haven’t heard enough versions of the 1973 hit Killing Me Softly With His Song, here’s another one.
Brazilian pop legend Sergio Mendes and Hong Kong singer-actress Karen Mok have teamed up to produce their very own version of the song, which will be released as part of the former’s new album, RENDEZ-VOUS.
Mok, a self-professed Mendes fan, is one of 10 female singers working with the 72-year-old on his latest album, which will be released mid-August in Asia. She is also the only non-Japanese singer in the line-up, which includes hip-hop artiste MINMI.
We haven’t had a chance to listen to their cover, but we hope it won’t turn out to be as weird as these collaborations.
***
PRINCESS OF CHINA (COLDPLAY AND RIHANNA). This song could have been called Princess of Thailand. Or Princess of Japan. Or Princess of Serious Nonsense. But Princess of China, it is not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Uw6ZkbsAH8#at=108
ANOTHER WAY TO DIE (ALICIA KEYS AND JACK WHITE). Are you by any chance looking for another way to (let your ears) die? Your search ends here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icrNkmf9uyQ
GANGNAM STYLE (PSY AND HYUNA). Is it just us, or is Hyuna’s shrill voice, and the way she chirps “oppa gang!nam style” particularly annoying in this video? We’d like to stick to the original, just semi-annoying Gangnam Style, please. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcLNteez3c4
CHINA WINE (SUN HO AND WYCLEF JEAN). This song, which in our humble opinion sounds worse than nails on a chalkboard, was too obvious not to include on this list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ya3Hqu_-cg.
And if you’re on a roll, wash it down with the equally horrible Mr Bill, featuring Lady Saw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GgxsfODXrI.)
