SINGAPORE - We’ve seen Taiwanese girl group S.H.E. grow and prosper, since the band released its debut album Girl Dormitory in 2001. And now, nearly 15 years after the band’s inception, it seems the S.H.E. family is ready to grow in a whole new way. In an interview with reporters in Singapore earlier today, Ella Chen - the “E” in S.H.E. - revealed plans to start a family with her husband of three years.
“I am determined to focus on my career this year. I am quite busy this year with my new album, and I will also be working on a musical in the second half of this year. But I plan to start readying myself for a child next year,” said Chen, who is here not just to promote her debut solo album Why Not, but will also be making an appearance and presenting an award at MediaCorp’s Star Awards this Sunday. “I think you need to prepare both your mind and body before you can conceive, otherwise it won’t be good for the child.”
Chen added that she had no preference with regards to the gender of her child, but that her husband would prefer to have a son. “It’s not because he’s the only son in his family,” quipped the bubbly singer. “It’s actually because he thinks he would be very worried about our daughter. He thinks he will have to worry about her being stolen by other men. He’ll think, ‘Oh my goodness, how can my precious princess be touched by other men?’”
