SINGAPORE – Della Ding Dang has wowed audiences with her powerful vocals and ballads for about eight years now.

Despite her popularity, however, the Taiwan-based singer has never performed at Spring Wave - Taiwan’s largest Mandopop outdoor music festival.

“In fact, the organisers have never invited me before, so I will be giving my first Spring Wave performance to Singapore,” Ding quipped. “I am very happy, because I know many people will be coming from all over the world to enjoy the music.”

Ding revealed that she will be performing a condensed, one-hour version of her usual concert show at Spring Wave Singapore, even though she is still nursing an injury. (The 31-year-old had hurt her tailbone when she fell off the stage during her concert in Taipei last month.)

“The microphone is the most important thing to a singer. When I fell that day, I really couldn’t get up. I felt my whole body aching, but I held on tightly to my microphone,” laughed Ding, who reportedly continued singing lying down, until she was rescued by her crew.

The concert, which returns to our shores and will be held at the Gardens By The Bay in June, will feature Ding as well as Bii, Yao Yao (Guo Shu Yao), and powerhouse Taiwanese artistes such as A-mei and Jam Hsiao. Bii, who will be singing a selection of English and Mandarin songs, said he was particularly excited about meeting his idol Jam Hsiao. “If given the opportunity, I would definitely like to say hi to him, and tell him I really like him.”

Dressed in a svelte white jacket, the Korean-Taiwanese singer also revealed his plans to hit the gym, so that he will be able to wear less when he performs in the tropical heat here.

“You have two types of weather in Singapore - hot and hotter,” the 24-year-old deadpanned.

And Bii isn’t the only singer planning to wear less at Spring Wave Singapore.

“I believe in wearing the appropriate clothes at the appropriate events. When I am at big awards ceremonies, I want to look my best,” said Yao Yao. “As for the Spring Wave, it depends on how my diet goes!”

The 23-year-old, who won The Golden Horse award for Best New Performer last year, also confessed that she feels stressed having to sing in front of so many people.

“I rarely do such large events, and I will be performing many new songs with a live band,” she said. “So I will be spending a lot of time preparing for the show.”
