Stefanie Sun: ‘I won’t let myself relax’

SINGAPORE — She’s been in show business for more than a decade, but Stefanie Sun still gets nervous before a major performance.

And it doesn’t exactly help that, come July 5, the Singaporean singer-songwriter will be the first singer to hold a concert at the brand new National Stadium, which can seat nearly 20,000 people.

“To be honest, I feel a bit of pressure before every show, I won’t let myself relax,” Sun said at today’s (April 4) press conference for her new album Kepler at Fullerton Hotel. “I know I make more mistakes when I become too familiar with a routine, or become a bit complacent. So I am always hyper aware, to make sure I am at my best at every concert.”

Sun also said she felt so stressed before the release of her new single, Kepler, that she lost weight.

“I know there will be people who like the song, and people who don’t. But at that point, when I first heard my new song on radio, I realised it no longer mattered. I just really enjoy singing. And that’s enough for me.”

Sun remained coy about what surprises she has in store for her fans. But audiences in Singapore shouldn’t be surprised to hear a familiar accent from some of her band members.

“Actually Singaporean musicians are some of the best in the region,” said the 35-year-old. “They are very good at what they do and after highly sought after, and I am very happy that I will be working with them. They have great attitude and experience. I’m very proud of that.”

Stefanie Sun 2014 Kepler World Tour will be held on July 5, 8pm, at the National Stadium. Tickets at S$98 to S$208 from www.sportshubtix.sg.
