SINGAPORE — Stefanie Sun is one award away from being the first artiste in the history of the Singapore Hit Awards (SHA) to win the Most Popular award five times.

The four-time winner has been nominated for this year’s Most Popular Female Artiste award, along with fellow Singaporean singer Tanya Chua, Taiwan’s Jia Jia and Hebe Tien and China’s Wanting Qu.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Eason Chan and Khalil Fong will be vying with Taiwan’s Show Luo, William Wei and Aaron Yan for the Most Popular Male Artiste award, while this year’s nominees for Most Popular Group/Band all hail from Taiwan: F.I.R., Lollipop F, Sodagreen, Wang Fu and Mayday.

Three other Singapore nominees — Kenny Khoo, Kiat Goh and Abigail Yeo — will be competing with Taiwan’s Dawen Wang and James Morris-Cotterill for the Most Popular New Artiste award.

Sun won the Most Popular Female Artiste award on four previous occasions (in 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2011), though she is not the only singer to have done so. Superstars Andy Lau and Jay Chou, as well as girl group S.H.E., have also each won the Most Popular Male Artiste and Most Popular Group awards four times, respectively.

Organised by MediaCorp’s top Chinese radio station Y.E.S. 93.3FM, the nominees for this year’s Most Popular awards were shortlisted from the popular radio show Y.E.S. 933 Pick Of The Pops. The final winners will be picked using a combination of their Y.E.S. 933 Pick Of The Pops scores (50 per cent) as well as SMS votes (50 per cent). Public SMS voting will commence on Sept 8, 9.33am, and end on Sept 28, 11.59pm.

SHA 2014 will be held on Nov 7, 7pm, at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, Level 6. Tickets from S$38 to S$118 at SISTIC. More details at http://www.meradio.sg/SHA.
