SINGAPORE — In celebration of Singapore’s Golden Jubilee, the 14th edition of the Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM) awards is set to be a special one.

The star-studded show, which will take place on Oct 9 at Suntec Singapore, is jointly organised by the MediaCorp Malay Community, Suria, Warna 94.2FM, Ria 89.7FM and Manja. It will feature performances by artistes in the region who have graced the Malay music scene for the past 50 years, and among them are local stars Aisyah Aziz and Ryan Sufiyan, Malaysian band Akim & The Majistret, and Indonesian singer Kunto Aji.

Organisers may be keeping a tight lid on other special details of the annual show that honours and recognises the best musical talents in the region’s Malay music industry, but one thing that has been announced is the nominations.

A total of 19 awards will be presented this year, including a new category for Breakthru Artiste. Singaporean singer-songwriter Taufik got the most nods with seven nominations, including Best Artiste, Best Song and Most Popular Song (Singapore), while Malaysian songstress Siti Nurhaliza is second with a total of six nominations.

This year’s edition will also see the first artiste from Brunei being nominated: Aziz Harun is in the running for Best New Artiste for his single Senyum. You can also expect other nominees who have made breakthroughs in the industry by way of social media, such as YouTube, including Elizabeth Tan, Sissy Imann and Chomel.

“It’s heartening to see APM 2015 growing its footprint beyond the region,” said Zakiah Halim, head of MediaCorp’s Malay Community. “To see the huge increase in the number of eyeballs and the strong branding that it has established, we aim to showcase many great music talents on the night of APM 2015 as we share our celebration of Singapore’s 50th anniversary with our neighbouring countries.”

Prior to the awards night, fans can vote for their artistes in a number of categories until Oct 1. These include: Most Popular Artiste (Singapore), Most Popular Song (Singapore), APM Most Popular Artiste, APM Most Popular Song and Social Media Icon. You can do so on APM’s Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/anugerah.planet

The two-and-a-half-hour event will be simulcast live on Suria, Warna 94.2FM, Ria 89.7FM in Singapore; Astro Ria in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam; and NET. in Indonesia. Live streaming will also be available on Toggle.sg.
