SINGAPORE — Move over, Taylor Swift. A certain boy band has set a new record on Twitter after their concert here last night (March 11).

As British boy band One Direction entertained some 30,000 screaming fans at the Singapore Sports Hub, the social networking site was abuzz with tweets of the occasion. A record more than 100,000 tweets were posted and #OTRASG (On the Road Again - Singapore) trended at No 1, said Twitter.

This busted singer Taylor Swift’s previous record for the total number of tweets related to a Singapore-based event, set at 73,000 tweets in June last year when the singer-songwriter performed here as part of her RED tour.

According to Twitter, tweets peaked last night at around 11.30pm with 400 tweets a minute, after a steady rise in tweets per minute starting from around 7.30pm.

Among the tweets, fans shared moments from the energetic live event and their interaction with the band.

Some of the fans were so excited, they saw fit to remove their underwear. One of them threw her bra on stage, which managed to get Style's attention when he tripped on it.

The sheer size of the crowd at the first One Direction concert in Singapore also got many retweets.

One of the band, Liam Payne, took to his twitter to thank the fans after the concert. The tweet quickly went viral and was one of the things that brought One Direction to the top trending topic.
