LOS ANGELES — AMC has set April 5 as the premiere date for the final seven Mad Men episodes.

The drama series began its farewell tour at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California, where creator Matt Weiner and stars Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, John Slattery and Christina Hendricks planned to talk up the second half of Season 7.

“It is impossible to overstate the impact (Mad Men) has had on AMC and, I would argue, this era of television,” said AMC’s Charlie Collier.

AMC said on Saturday it had ordered an eight-part mini-series Making Of The Mob: New York and secured US and Canadian rights to the British mini The Night Manager.

Making Of The Mob is described as a mix of documentary, scripted and re-enactment footage telling the story of the Five Families that created the American Mafia in the early 20th century. It will air this summer.

Night Manager, starring Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston, is based on the John le Carre novel about a soldier turned weapons dealer. It’s a co-production with the BBC that is set to be filmed in the spring. REUTERS
