SINGAPORE — Actors Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, famously known for playing a couple in the Korean hit TV series Descendants Of The Sun, announced on Wednesday (July 5) that they are to wed in October.

In the joint statement released by their management agencies Blossom Entertainment and UAA, they said that the couple plan to marry on Oct 31, according to Yonhap News and Korean Herald.

The news came as a surprise to many as the stars previously denied rumours that they were even dating.

“The situation demanded caution as marriage is a joining of not just two people but of two families,” added the agencies representing the two stars.

The actors played a couple in the hugely popular 2016 series set in the fictional war-torn country Uruk.

The 16-episode series has been hailed for helping to reinvigorate the “Hallyu” (or Korean Wave) craze, which started in the early 2000s, thanks to K-pop acts such as Wonder Girls and K-dramas such as Winter Sonata.
