SINGAPORE – Singapore electronic music act Jasmine Sokko and New York-based producer Lucian have teamed up for a new single, Close To You.

Speaking to TODAY, Sokko, who is in her early 20s, said that Lucian had reached out to her after hearing her debut single, 1057, online.

Lucian’s releases, which include remixes of Black Coast’s TRNDSTTR and Alessia Cara’s Here, have been streamed more than 100 million times on SoundCloud, YouTube and Spotify respectively.

“My friends and I have been listening to Lucian’s music on SoundCloud but it never really occurred to me that I would get to work with him someday,” Sokko said, describing the experience as “surreal”.

“It basically began when he chanced upon my music online and we decided to collaborate on the new track,” she said.

Sokko added that the collaboration took place entirely over e-mail, with Sokko handling the vocal melody and lyrics and Lucian, the production.

“Lucian left me a lot of creative space to work on the song,” Sokko said, adding that the music gave her a vision of outer space. “Close To You is a lyrical manifestation of long distance relationship insecurities with planetary and cosmic references laid over an upbeat track.”

Close To You is now available on SoundCloud, and will be released on Spotify and iTunes at the end of this month.
