SINGAPORE — Greetings and salutations, fellow stargazers! This is your Showbiz Sista possibly looking at what could be the beginning of a beautiful romance: Between 118 stars Zhang Zhen Huan and Dawn Yeoh.

Both actors were present yesterday at the lensing ceremony to mark the start of filming for the 190-episode half-hour Channel 8 series about heartlanders in and around a Tiong Bahru coffeeshop. 118 also stars Chew Chor Meng, Pan Ling Ling, Dennis Chew, Ya Hui, Xu Bin and more. For the first time, episodes may be shot as close as two weeks to their telecast date so that current affairs can be incorporated into the scripts.

“I think it’s a very good experiment. There’s a little pressure but I’m also looking forward to it,” Zhen Huan said.

“But the script might change along the way,” Showbiz Sista pointed out. “What if your character suddenly gets killed off?” You know, Lost or Game Of Thrones style.

“I’d have to see why I die,” Zhen Huan mused. “I’ll be working with Dawn Yeoh. If it so happens that I die for her, then I’d do it willingly!”

Say what?

Turns out our Duke is looking forward to playing a couple alongside a former Princess.

“She’s easygoing and cheerful. I believe there are a lot of opportunities for good chemistry between us in our storyline,” Zhen Huan said. He also pointed out that he and Dawn were supposed to pair up for the 2010 drama New Beginnings, but that in the end, she wasn’t involved in the production. “I think it’s the disappointment of almost getting to work with her and the fact that after several years, there’s finally another chance. I’m quite happy,” he said.

“And, of course, she’s pretty,” your Showbiz Sista prompted, helpfully.

“She is very pretty, yes. And the Executive Producer said, ‘You two look quite compatible.’ And I think it’s not just our looks, I think we are quite compatible in character, after interacting with her for the past two days. So, from that perspective, perhaps while filming, we might be able to get into character more easily,” he said.

“And you’re currently single, right?” Your Showbiz Sista looked at him meaningfully.

He stared back for a moment before starting. “Oh! Yes! Thanks for that! I will remember it!” he exclaimed before roaring with laughter.

Who knows what could happen next, kids?

Catch 118 starting Oct 20, weekdays at 7.30pm on MediaCorp TV Channel 8.
