SINGAPORE – Pierre Png and Jeffrey Xu each scored double nominations in the categories of Best Actor In A Leading Role and Best Actor In A Supporting Role respectively for this year’s Asian Television Awards.

Png is nominated for his work in the MediaCorp TV Channel 5 miniseries Zero Calling as well as in Channel 8’s The Journey: A Voyage, a role for which he picked up the Best Actor Star Award in April.

The actor joked that it was stressful to have not one but two shots at the award, before turning serious and saying: “Hard work never let anyone down. Good things come to those who wait.”

Png will contend for the award alongside China’s He Shengming (Love Of OB & GYNS) and Zhai Tianlin (The Master Of The House), Philippines’ Dennis Trillo (My Husband’s Lover) and Taiwan’s Ban Tieh-Hsiang (My Super Dad).

Xu, who won in the Best Supporting Actor category last year for his performance in the Channel U drama Marry Me, has nominations for his work in Channel 8’s Gonna Make It and Channel U’s Scrum!. He is up against Zhu Hou Ren (Served H.O.T.), Alaric Tay and Michael Dorman (Serangoon Road), Rayson Tan (Entangled) and Hong Kong’s Hui Siu-hung (Bounty Lady).

Other local artistes who received nominations include Best Actress In A Leading Role nominee Rui En (Sudden) and Best Actress In A Supporting Role nominees Xiang Yun (The Caregivers), Priscelia Chan (The Journey: A Voyage), Rebecca Lim (The Dream Makers) and Sora Ma (C.L.I.F. 3).

Channel 5 sitcom Spouse For House’s cast members Irene Ang, Desmond Tan, Richard Low and Selena Li are up for Best Comedy Performance alongside Channel 8 variety programme Black Rose’s Quan Yi Fong and Guo Liang. Spouse For House and The Noose are in the running for Best Comedy Programme, while the locally-produced Serangoon Road is up for Best Drama and the Channel News Asia documentary Days Of Rage has a Best Documentary Series nomination.

In the Best Entertainment Presenter/Host category, Belinda Lee and Darren Lim are nominated for their work in Channel 8’s The Place We Live In and Nikki Muller is nominated for Channel 5’s The Food Detectives.

The 19th Asian Television Awards will take place on Dec 11 at Marina Bay Sands.
