SINGAPORE — Dear Edison, I feel like you’re avoiding me.

Okay, so we aren’t exactly bosom buddies. But we did meet that time you came to Singapore five years ago. Sort of. We were in the same room and all.

You’ve been lying low since the 2008 scandal involving your jolly couple snapshots and concentrating on your fashion businesses, but now that you’re headlining Blind Spot, your first drama series since then, I really thought you’d want to tell me all about it.

I guess you’re not an avid email writer: Why else would you answer only two out of all the questions I sent you? It is, admittedly, a lost art. But you’ve never answered my questions before, so wouldn’t this have been a good opportunity to start? For instance, what interested you about the story of a detective who doesn’t believe in the supernatural but is forced to confront its possibility?

In your reply, you said: “I took an interest in the story in the beginning and I haven’t worked with (Blind Spot director) Danny Pang before so I thought it would be a good opportunity to work with him.”

You also said: “I talked to Shu Qi before working with Danny and had a lot of conversations with him before the shoot, and talked about my paranormal experience.”

Was your paranormal experience a bout of telepathy with this writer? Because I don’t think I was in on that one. I’ll bet you tell Shu Qi more than you tell me. I guess I’ll never find out now.

I understand if you’ve developed a fear of reporters. But I’m not like that Hong Kong tabloid that caught you scratching your nether regions last year. I didn’t even ask about your former employee who’s now your current squeeze, because I respect your need for privacy.

To be fair, you did show some signs of life when you answered my second question about your moments on set. You recounted: “I tried to trick my assistant and locked him in a room and faked as if something paranormal had happened!”

But that’s all you had to say on the subject. You were never one for details.

Must be a Mars-Venus thing.

Catch Blind Spot on Thursdays at 10pm on Thrill (StarHub TV Ch 618 and SingTel mio TV Ch 415).
