SINGAPORE — The fourth season of Mediacorp’s popular police drama C.L.I.F. proved rip-roaringly eventful for Singaporean actor Elvin Ng — when he split his trousers on set.

This season, his character’s new job scope within the police force involves patrolling on a bicycle.

“In the first season I played a neighbourhood patrol officer. In the next season, I was promoted to a traffic police officer and I looked very heroic. But I kept complaining that it was very hot. So, now, I’m in shorts,” Ng quipped during a press conference for the show on Tuesday (Aug 23).

That was the reason why, he joked, during a proposal scene in which he went down on bended knee before his leading lady Sora Ma, his trousers ripped.

“I was used to wearing shorts. To propose, I had to wear long pants. So, the pants ripped lor,” he said. “I think my ears turned red.”

The important question is: Did he have nice underwear on at the time? “Of course,” he proclaimed. “I always have nice underwear on.” In fact, “I like red underwear. It makes me feel lucky. But that day, I think I was wearing black underwear,” he added.

That must have been why his luck didn’t hold out when it came to his trousers.

C.L.I.F., which stands for Courage, Loyalty, Integrity, Fairness, is produced in collaboration with the Singapore Police Force. Season 4, which will delve deeper into the cops’ personal lives, also stars Li Nanxing, Rui En, Ya Hui, Sora Ma and Zhang Yaodong.

Catch C.L.I.F. 4 starting Sept 6, on weekdays at 9pm on Mediacorp TV Channel 8.
