LOS ANGELES — Lifetime’s Unauthorised Beverly Hills 90210 Story and Unauthorised Melrose Place Story are coming to life. The TV movies have both set their casts, and the cable net released the first photos yesterday (July 22).

The 90210 telepic, follows the show’s ups and downs from many near-cancellations to achieving pop-culture phenomenon status and creating international A-listers, while the Melrose Place version will cover the casting dramas and sensational storylines that permeated the spin off series.

The Simpsons’ Dan Castellaneta and Hot in Cleveland’s Adam Korson appear in both films, as mega-producer Aaron Spelling and series creator Darren Star, respectively.

Alyssa Lynch, who played Tiffani-Amber Thiessen in Lifetime’s Saved by the Bell story, will also portray her (and her 90210 character Valerie Malone) in this adaptation. Other cast members for that movie include Samantha Munro as Shannen Doherty/Brenda Walsh, Max Lloyd-Jones as Jason Priestley/Brandon Walsh, Abie Cobb as Jennie Garth/Kelly Taylor, Jesy McKinney as Luke Perry/Dylan McKay, Abby Ross as Tori Spelling/Donna Martin, David Lennon as Ian Ziering/Steve Sanders, Michele Goyns as Gabrielle Cartieris/Andrea Zuckerman and Ross Linton as Brian Austin Green/David Silver.

The cast for the Melrose Place project include Ciara Hanna as Heather Locklear/Amanda Woodward, Rebecca Dalton as Courtney Thorne-Smith/Allison Parker, Frank Bailey as Andrew Shue/Billy Campbell, Ryan Bruce as Grant Show/Jake Hanson, Chloe McClay as Josie Bissett/Jane Mancini, Ali Cobrin as Daphne Zuniga/Jo Reynolds, Teagan Vincze as Marcia Cross/Kimberly Shaw, Joseph Coleman as Doug Savant/Matt Fielding, Brandon Barash as Thomas Calabro/Michael Mancini, Karissa Tynes as Vanessa A. Williams/Rhonda Blair, Chelsea Hobbs as Laura Leighton/Sydney Andrews and Lanie McAuley as Amy Locane/Sandy Louise Harding.

90210 is exec produced by Peter M Green and Howard Braunstein and is produced by Christian Bruyere, written by Jeff Roda and directed by Vanessa Parise. It premieres at 8pm on October 3 on Lifetime — 25 years and a day after the first series premiered in 1990 on Fox.

Melrose is exec produced by Braunstein and Michael Larkin, produced by Bruyere and written by Dana Schmalenberg. Mark Griffiths directs. It premieres at 8pm October 10 on Lifetime.

Both projects follow the cabler’s Saved by the Bell TV movie and the upcoming Full House version, which premieres August 22. The first go at Lifetime’s “unauthorised” projects generated considerable buzz but did not perform in the ratings. VARIETY.COM/REUTERS
