SINGAPORE — Mediacorp has picked up the Terrestrial Broadcaster of the Year award on the second day of the 21st Asian Television Awards (ATA) held on Friday (Dec 2).

This is the fourth consecutive year the company has won this award, and its 13th in the history of the awards show.

Commenting on the win, Mediacorp chief executive officer Shaun Seow said: "Every year we know we are facing stiffer and stiffer competition. We actually do not produce (content) to win competitions. We basically have to do the best that we can and I think it's great recognition for the team back in Mediacorp."

He added: "At the end of the day people should be captivated by good content regardless of the delivery platform whether it's free to air or delivered digitally out of your mobile screen. What it takes is content people want to watch."

Earlier in the night, it also picked up three awards, including Best Reality Show award for the Channel 5 show, Death Is Our Business, a series that goes behind the funerals of some of Singapore's most high-profile deaths.

Actress Carla Dunareanu picked up the Best Comedy Actress for her role as sweet Stephanie in the Channel 5 series, Rojak; while Jeff Catz won for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal as Kim Chian in the Suria series, Bunga Tanjong.

This brings the broadcaster's total haul to seven awards this year. On the first night, Mediacorp won three awards: The Best Documentary Programme (for Channel NewsAsia’s Wild City), Best Current Affairs Programme (for Undercover Asia - North Korean Slaves) and Best Preschool Programme (for Leo the Wildlife Ranger).
