LOS ANGELES — David Letterman’s farewell to late night is being commemorated with yet another send-off, this time in the form of a Web concert series.
Legends On Letterman will feature performances from musical acts that performed on The Late Show during its 21-year run, with Mumford & Sons performing on the debut instalment.
Legends is a special edition of existing Web series Live On Letterman, which has been running for the past few years as an extension of the brief musical appearances The Late Show affords. After a band or artist has taped a performance for television, a new audience is brought in for a 45-minute set that airs live on the CBS website. Legends will follow a similar format.
The CBS Interactive’s series will premiere live on CBS.com, CBS apps and select CBS Radio and CBS Audience Network websites.
Mumford & Sons made their first US late-night TV appearance with Letterman in 2010. The band kicks off the Legends series on May 5 (8pm EST), preceding their appearance on The Late Show later that night on CBS. Dave Matthews Band is set for a May 7 appearance on Legends On Letterman. REUTERS
