SINGAPORE — Quan Yi Fong’s daughter Eleanor Lee shot to fame last year after becoming the Apple Girl in China — she starred in an Apple ad for the Chinese market and caught the public’s eye with her fresh image. In the same year, she starred in a commercial with EXO’s Lay, and took up her first acting role in Chinese period fantasy drama series Tribes and Empires, earning praise for her talent.

The 17-year-old will be making a return to the small screen with her newest role in A Restaurant with Many Problems (unofficial translation), which is the Chinese remake of the Japanese drama Mondai no Aru Restaurant. The blockbuster drama has drawn attention for having members of various Golden Horse Award-winning production teams in the crew.

Casting is still in progress, and other than Lee, Chinese actress Jiao Junyan, lead actress of Remembering Lichuan, has been the only confirmed name so far. The story revolves around the lives of seven women with unique personalities and portrays their everyday struggles against men, whom they regard as their enemies.

In related news, Lee signed on with Beijing-based company Summer Star earlier this year and recently completed her two-month training, where her skills in dancing and acting, among other things, were honed. While she may be currently living there without celebrity mum Quan Yi Fong, the concerned mother revealed in a recent magazine interview with iWeekly that she has reminded Eleanor to always be well-mannered, on-time for her schedules and lead a clean lifestyle.

Lee also revealed that she is preparing to release her first solo album next year, and wants people to be able to instantly connect with her lyrics after they hear it, much like how pop princess Taylor Swift does with her tracks.

As for whether she will be giving dating a try while she isn’t under the watchful eye of her mother and godfather Addy Lee, she laughed that her assistant, who lives with her, will likely be watching her like a hawk, with Addy chiming in that he will “drag her back to Singapore” if he finds out that she is dating.
