The stars of TV series The Queen are true rulers of their domain

SINGAPORE – They may play vigilantes who seek revenge against men who betray their wives and girlfriends, but the stars - Jesseca Liu, Jaylee Woo, Apple Hong, Priscelia Chan and Vivian Lai – of Mediacorp Channel 8’s upcoming drama The Queen are also rulers of their particular domains. We asked what they consider their greatest talents, and here’s what they had to say.

JESSECA LIU: THE QUEEN OF BEAUTY SLEEP. “I am very good at sleeping. As long as I don’t have anything to do, I sleep a lot. The longest time I have spent asleep was 23 hours. I rarely sleep at work, however, because I think I am quite good at enduring hardship. When I feel sleepy, I’ll drink a lot of coffee and try to stay energized. Maybe I sleep a lot because I spend all my energy at work!”

JAYLEY WOO: THE QUEEN OF AUNTIE-NESS. “They say that at my age (24), I should be the most lively and most hyper person on set, but I am actually quite the opposite. I shop online, but it’s like I am (buying things for someone) in a different age group. I bought a rice cooker because I wanted to bring it on set to keep the food warm. I also introduced the website I bought it on to Vivian Lai (who also bought a rice cooker) and now she is quite into it. I guess that is a little bit auntie because that is what aunties do – they share.”

APPLE HONG: THE QUEEN OF SHOPPING. “I am the Queen of shopping, and it’s not that I love to shop, but I will shop for things with re-sale value. Sometimes I buy bags and shoes and I will consider if I will be able to sell them in the future. When my friends shop, they ask me for my advice too. Some of the bags I have bought have gone up in value, because I bought them when they were cheap and now their prices have gone up. Sometimes, when you know you won’t use something again, you can sell them – so at least you’ll have money to buy new things!”

PRISCELIA CHAN: THE QUEEN OF COFFEE. “I used to have two or three coffees a day during filming. I am very particular about my coffee, and I make sure that they are of a high grade – the balance of the coffee, the aroma, the acidity, the sugar and the milk. It must be perfect, so I am very particular of that. I was the queen of desserts and coffee, but recently I have been cutting down, because sugar is bad for health.”

VIVIAN LAI: THE QUEEN OF THRIFTINESS. “I’m very good at comparing prices. When people buy things (that are too expensive) I’ll say ‘Why are you so silly? You should have bought it for a lower price and this and that place’. I have many friends so I’ll ask them if they know anyone and if they can get a discount. I don’t really do this for smaller items but it’s worth it when something is expensive. I’ll do my research. And my friends will ask me for help too.”

The Queen airs from Feb 18, Mondays to Fridays at 9pm on Channel 8.
