Stop! In the name of Star Awards (Part 2)

SINGAPORE – The Star Awards is our once-a-year chance to gawk at more celebrities in one place than photographers at a mugshot convention. But for the artistes themselves who have scored nominations, it probably feels a little like standing in a police lineup along with a bunch of other nominees, waiting to be identified.

Before you is the lineup of nominees for this year’s Best Actress category*. They all stand accused of being the best in their field, as judged by their performances in this year’s dramas. But only one of them will be revealed as the real perpetrator.

*Rui En (nominated for Best Actress for The Dream Makers), Chris Tong (nominated for Best Actress for The Journey: A Voyage)

NAME: Rebecca Lim

CHARGED WITH: Being the Best Actress (Sudden)

PLEA: Not me

Best Actress – zero (possibility). Because I was in Dream Makers and I think one of the reasons why it was such a success was because the lead actresses were very good. Even I watched the show because of their stories. Of course I hope I won’t go home empty handed. But in terms of an acting category, I really don’t have that much confidence in wining. I think also because I’m very new to this whole ‘nominated for an acting category’ thing so I really don’t know what to expect.

NAME: Jeanette Aw

CHARGED WITH: Being the Best Actress (The Dream Makers)

PLEA: Not me

Maybe only 50 percent. I’ve been disappointed before and I don’t want to get my hopes up too high in case I get disappointed again. There were a few nominations where people said they felt I had a very high chance. When they tell me that, I get very excited and hopeful. And then I get very disappointed. But (Bryan Wong told me), ‘If so many people are coming to you to tell you that it’s you, you’ve won it regardless of whether they call your name during the awards.’ And I was very touched and really felt like crying. I think it’s very true because I’ve never felt this kind of support before. So it doesn’t really matter if it’s me in the end.

NAME: Chen Liping

CHARGED WITH: Being the Best Actress (The Dream Makers)

PLEA: I dunno

It has been so many years. Whether or not I get awards, I want to portray my roles well. After The Dream Makers, a lot of aunties came up to me to scold Guo Liang because he cheats on me in the show. The Star Awards is an annual company party. The most important thing is for everyone to dress up and look beautiful. The main event is not who wins an award but what everyone is wearing!

It’s the 20th anniversary of the Star Awards. Catch Star Awards 20 Show 1 on April 20 at 7pm and Show 2 on April 27 at 7pm (Walk Of Fame at 5.30pm) live on MediaCorp TV Channel 8.
