SINGAPORE – Vasantham kicked-off this year’s Deepavali celebrations with a two-and-a-half hour Deepavali countdown show, Amarkala Deepavali 2015, last night (Nov 9).

The special SG50 edition of Amarkala Deepavali 2015 sought to capture the essence of Deepavali celebrations through the years from the 1960s to the present-day festivities.

The highlight of the night was the hilarious skit by the cast of Kudumdam United 2, which left everyone in stitches. The audience was also treated to a visual feast of colourful costumes, while dance groups such as Rameshwara, Diversity, TGIF and Omkar Arts offered some visual action.

Local singers Suthasini, Elamaran, Pavitra, Kaushik and newly crowned Vasantham Star Subashini entertained the crowd with beautiful renditions of songs both old and new.

The night did not end with the countdown to usher in the Festival of Lights, as the celebration continued with a non-stop song and dance medley from midnight to 12.30am.

More than 700 people attended the event, which was broadcast “live” from the MediaCorp TV Theatre and simulcast worldwide on Toggle LIVE for audiences abroad.
