Why Rebecca Lim wouldn’t want Elvin Ng by her sickbed

SINGAPORE — There are probably worse things in life than having Zoe Tay loom over your hospital bed.

SINGAPORE — There are probably worse things in life than having Zoe Tay loom over your hospital bed.

Tay and the rest of the cast of new MediaCorp TV Channel 8 drama You Can Be An Angel Too — including Rebecca Lim, Xiang Yun, Bryan Wong, Elvin Ng, Sheila Sim, Aloysius Pang and Xu Bin — not only play nurses in the show; they also went through training courses at a hospital so they would be equipped to play their roles convincingly.

The part that was the most fun was learning CPR, said Tay, who plays a veteran nurse manager. “It’s not easy. You have to measure the position and make sure your timing is correct.”

Would she be able to save us if we fainted right then and there? “No, I can’t! I’m so sorry! I’ve forgotten now,” she laughed. “But it’s okay — I think Rebecca can revive you, because she has a computer memory. She remembers her lines so well and I just copy her.”

But Lim demurred: “I’m not very good — it’s just because my Mandarin is not as powerful as the rest, so I have to keep repeating the lines to myself.”

Which of her fellow cast members, then, would Lim most want to see hovering over her hypothetical hospital bed, assuming she had just woken from a coma?

“I wouldn’t trust any of them with my life — but I think either Zoe or Xiang Yun,” she mused. “They both have motherly instincts ... I’d like both of them to take care of me and Bryan to entertain me — to work my brain because I’ve just woken up from a coma.”

What about the last person she would want to see? “Maybe the guys, such as Elvin and Xu Bin — they’re just so good-looking,” she laughed. “If I were a patient, I would be really glad to have nurses like them because they are eye candy and it keeps your morale high. But I’m not sure about them (cleaning up after me)!”

Tay also picked Xiang Yun as having the angelic character of an ideal nurse. “She has a big-sister character and a big-sister heart,” she said. “She’s very approachable, friendly, popular and lovable. You would definitely want a nurse always coming up to you with a smiling face (and saying), ‘Yes, can I help you?’”

It wouldn’t be too bad to have Wong ministering to her needs, either. “He’s a great cook. Fantastic,” she gushed. “One day, he came in with dry curry he made himself. It was amazing. It’s not my favourite dish, but I ate so much that day.”

Catch You Can Be An Angel Too starting on Jan 5, weekdays at 9pm, on MediaCorp TV Channel 8.
