Want to drink Nathan Hartono’s Milo Peng?

SINGAPORE — It all began with a trek to the Great Wall of China. There, singer Nathan Hartono posted a picture of himself on Facebook.

“Climbing the Great Wall today. So tired. Send help. And Milo peng,” he wrote in an Instagram post on April 13.

The beverage company responded, and on April 19, the 25-year-old singer received a box from the company. It contained unmarked bottles, presumably containing Milo.

“I expected Milo packets or tins, but got sent this super sketchy, unlabelled bottle instead,” he wrote, posting a picture of himself and one of the bottles.

The crooner then “dared” Milo to turn what he had received into an actual product.

“Should you choose to accept this mission, I will take a bath in a tub full of Milo,” he joked. “I will change my name to Nathan Milo-tono.”

“I will become the mascot for Milo,” he offered. “I will dress up in any outfit you want me to.”

Well, Milo is calling his bluff. It has had a new ready-to-drink product, Milo Peng, in development since October last year. But the brand pushed its release date forward, following Hartono's posts. Coming in a 225ml ready-to-drink, the recipe features a more “gao” and choclatey taste.

This is not the first dalliance between Hartono and Milo. Last year, the singer had promised to treat people to Milo Peng from a Milo van if he won the Sing! China contest. He placed second, and drove a van to locations such as Plaza Singapura, handing out 65,000 cups of Milo in total.

Now, Nestle, the parent brand for Milo, has officially signed Hartono on as its ambassador.

What his outfit will be, is anyone’s guess.

The new bottled Milo Peng (225ml) will be available in all major retail outlets at $1.20 per bottle. A campaign featuring Nathan Hartono will be launched at the end of May.
