SINGAPORE - A fire broke out at the Broadway hotel located 195 Serangoon Road slightly after 5pm today (Jan 25).

The hotel is located at the junction of Race Course Lane and Serangoon Road.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), they received a call at 5.10pm, saying that a fire had broken out. Upon arrival, the SCDF established that the fire was from the ground-floor restaurant of the hotel.

The SCDF contained the fire and a 65-year-old man was taken to Tan Tock Seng hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

According to an eyewitness, Mr Natesh Raj Elansezhiyan, "lots of black smoke" was coming out of the restauarant. He added the SCDF rhino was the first to arrive, but they were unable to open a "jammed" fire hydrant for two to three minutes.

He also said that a large crowd had gathered around the scene.
