SINGAPORE – Singaporeans First (SingFirst) party today (Aug 28) announced five of the 10 candidates it plans to field in next month's General Election.

Besides party chief Tan Jee Say, 61, the other four will be making their maiden appearance in an election.

The four are SingFirst co-founder and communications consultant Fahmi Rais, 48; market risk manager Chirag Desai, 38; IT consultant Wong Chee Wai, 44; and sales executive Melvyn Chiu, 36.

All five are masters degree holders and Mr Chiu is one of the youngest candidates that SingFirst will field in the upcoming polls.

SingFirst plans to take on the ruling People's Action Party in two five-member GRCs - Jurong and Tanjong Pagar.

But Mr Tan, a former civil servant who contested on a Singapore Democratic Party ticket in GE2011, said the five candidates unveiled today may not necessarily stand as a team. He said the final line-up for the party will be known on Nomination Day.

SingFirst also launched its party slogan: Restore Our Nation at a press conference this morning held at its headquarters on Tras Street.

Mr Tan said the idea behind the slogan is to "take back our country, our places in society, schools, businesses" after the Government has opened the doors to too many foreigners.

He added that the party aims to advocate for a fair society, where the level of competition is not tilted against Singaporeans.
