SINGAPORE – As other Opposition slates for the General Election take shape, the National Solidarity Party is planning to keep its cards close to its chest.

It will reveal who will be fielded in the four constituencies it plans to contest only on Nomination Day on Sept 1, the party said in a Facebook post today (Aug 27).

“NSP will be announcing 12 candidates on nomination day!” it said. “Our candidates and volunteers have put in a tremendous amount of work as the GE approaches and we are excited to be contesting all four constituencies.”

The four constituencies the NSP plans to contest are Tampines GRC, Sembawang GRC, Pioneer SMC and Macpherson SMC. In recent days, the party has had to deal with resignation of two members of its decision-making body – one of them being former acting secretary-general Hazel Poa – as well as member Steve Chia reversing his decision to run in MacPherson as a result of an anonymous online smear campaign.

Party chief Sebastian Teo was also a target of the online attack, which detailed his corruption conviction in the 1970s, but the party has maintained that it will contest in the four constituencies as planned.
