SDP chief Chee to contest in Holland-Bukit Timah
SINGAPORE — After introducing its candidates last week, the Singapore Democratic Party finally revealed who it will field in Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency and Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency at the Assumption Pathway School nomination centre today (Sept 1).
SINGAPORE — After introducing its candidates last week, the Singapore Democratic Party finally revealed who it will field in Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency and Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency at the Assumption Pathway School nomination centre today (Sept 1).
Party chief Chee Soon Juan will stand in Holland-Bukit Timah with infectious diseases expert Paul Tambyah, nursing home administrator Chong Wai Fung and compliance auditor Sidek Mallek.
Mr Khung Wai Yeen will contest for the SDP in the Bukit Panjang single seat ward.
They will contest against the People’s Action Party in both constituencies.
The PAP’s Dr Teo Ho Pin is the incumbent at Bukit Panjang, where he beat SDP candidate Alec Tok with 66.27 per cent of votes in 2011.
The PAP’s Holland-Bukit Timah team consists of Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of State for Education and Communications and Information Sim Ann, and backbenchers Liang Eng Hwa and Mr Christopher de Souza. They defeated the SDP team in 2011 by winning 60.08 per cent of votes.
Uber driver Shirwin Eu had showed up at the nomination centre hoping to get the required proposer, seconder and assentors but did not succeed in his bid to contest in Bukit Panjang. He had offered $50 transport and food allowance to residents willing to support his bid.
