SINGAPORE — The Singapore People’s Party (SPP) and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have unveiled their joint team for Bishan-Toa Payoh Group Representation Constituency (GRC).

A day after the two opposition parties signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), they announced today (Aug 30) that the team will be co-led by former DPP secretary-general Benjamin Pwee, 47, and SPP's Bryan Long, 37.

Former DPP chairman Mohamad Hamim Aliyas, 50, and SPP members Law Kim Hwee, 55, and Abdillah Zamzuri, 31, make up the rest of the team. Mr Pwee and Mr Hamim had to resign from the DPP and joined the SPP to enable them to be fielded in the upcoming General Election.

In today’s press conference, SPP's Chiam See Tong also confirmed that he will not run in the upcoming General Election.

Answering a question on whether this means that he is retiring, Mr Chiam, who is 80, said: "I've got a long way to go.”

The SPP added that Mr Chiam will advise them on their election campaign.
