SINGAPORE — From his interactions with Fengshan residents, Workers’ Party (WP) candidate Dennis Tan found that residents in the single-seat ward are concerned with municipal issues, such as cleanliness and illegal parking, and national issues such as the cost of living.

“If elected, I’ve to continue to walk the ground here every day to continue to be close to the residents to understand their needs ... to be visible and to be available,” Mr Tan told reporters on the sidelines of his party’s walkabout at 85 Fengshan Centre this morning (Sept 4).

Although Fengshan was carved out recently from the East Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC) for the coming General Election, Mr Tan said he and the WP four-man team contesting in East Coast have been walking the ground for some time.

Over the last two years, the candidates have been conducting house visits and visiting coffeshops in Fengshan and East Coast constituencies, among other things.

By the time the Sept 11 polls were called, Mr Tan said he and the East Coast GRC team – comprising Mr Gerald Giam, Mr Leon Perera, Mr Mohamed Fairoz Shariff, and Dr Daniel Goh – have combed almost all of the Housing and Development Board blocks in Fengshan once, and the majority of the private landed estates at least once.
