SINGAPORE — Singapore Design Week will return for its fourth year from March 3 to 12. For the first time, organisers DesignSingapore Council have teamed up with media company Time Inc to bring exhibitions and key speakers to the event.

One of the highlights is a collaboration with Wallpaper magazine, featuring the first Singapore + Wallpaper Handmade Classics’ exhibition.

The exhibition — themed Multiplicity, a nod to Singapore’s heritage — is a specially curated showcase of original, one-off pieces and unique designs commissioned by Wallpaper magazine.

The pieces run the gamut from cabinets to rice cookers, and were created by international talents from past Handmade editions. The showing runs from March 9 to June 11 at Gillman Barracks.

Singapore Design Week takes place at the National Design Centre and at various locations across Singapore.

Organisers are putting learning about design within businesses in the spotlight.

“What this year brings to the table, which is fundamentally anchored in our conference, is the narrative of design in business ... design as a business strategy and how it can help in terms of thinking of your next form for business and business model transformation,” said Agnes Kwek, executive director of the DesignSingapore Council.

She added that this year’s feature conference — in collaboration with media company Time Inc. and the company’s Fortune, Time and Wallpaper brands — will see a carefully selected line-up of speakers who can “bring out those kinds of stories”.

Titled Innovation by Design, speakers inclulde Ernesto Quinteros, Chief Design Officer of Johnson & Johnson (USA); Mauro Porcini, Chief Design Officer of Pepsico (USA); Andre Fu, Founder of AFSO (Hong Kong); and Neal Cross, Chief Innovation Officer of DBS Bank (Singapore). The conference is on March 7 and 8.

Other popular returning events are Design Trails; SingaPlural; the Design, Make & Craft Fair and the International Furniture Fair Singapore.
