5 things that’ll make you go: West is best

1. Visit Singapore’s only observatory

1. Visit Singapore’s only observatory

In fact, at 7pm on Aug 27, the Observatory at the Science Centre is holding a picnic under the stars to witness the conjunction of the planets Venus and Jupiter. You can also queue up for free stargazing sessions every Friday from 7.45pm to 10pm. So cool, right?

2. Become a giant hamster with ZOVBing

The sessions are usually conducted at the field along Old Holland Road. Basically, a huge ball with an inner chamber is inflated, two people get in, and you roll down a slope. The ball absorbs all the impact so you have little to fear!

3. Go bat-crazy at Singapore’s first automated indoor batting cage

Located at Pandan Gardens, Homerun Baseball is the perfect place to let off some steam after a horrible week at work. You get in the cage, put in the tokens and wait for the machine to pitch a ball to you. Trust us, it is very therapeutic.

4. Go outlet shopping

Who needs to cross the Causeway for good deals? Just head to IMM! More than just a place where families go to get grocery shopping done, the mall contains a mind-boggling number of outlet stores by brands such as ECCO, Coach, Nine West, Cotton On and more.

5. Get the freshest catch

For a family outing with a unique spin, plan a visit to the Jurong Fishery Port. Entry is free for all, but you need to sign in at the security post with a valid identification document. Get a bird’s eye view of the marketplace by walking on the elevated gangway. Best time to visit is between 12.30am and 4am. Located at Fishery Port Road. Closed every Monday.
