Review: Heavenly Spa by Westin’s Christmas Chocolov Treatment

SINGAPORE — Instead of a gift, why not buy your special one a body treatment this Christmas? It may be intangible, but its effects probably last longer than that ornament or T-shirt you were considering.

One such treatment certainly did the trick for me: The festive Christmas Chocolov Treatment at Westin’s Heavenly Spa.

Done in a spacious and inviting room, the 90-minute dark chocolate-tinged body treatment comprises a 30-minute exfoliating body scrub and an hour-long body massage — which were especially inviting after a yoga session had left me knackered and sore.

According to my therapist, the scrub uses cinnamon and rice powder, which rejuvenates your skin for a healthy glow. The chocolate, meanwhile, exfoliates and has a calming effect. All three ingredients also boast antioxidant properties that protect your skin from wrinkles.

As a body treatment that uses chocolate, it thankfully didn’t smell as if I was soaking in chocolate fondue, as my therapist proceeded to scrub every inch of my body before sending me into a luxurious — albeit rather cold — rain shower (perhaps using warm water might have helped lessen the shock).

Nevertheless, I didn’t want to get out of the shower—except that a promising deep-tissue body massage was waiting. Using a lush body oil of chocolate, frankincense and pine, with a base of almond, jojoba and grape seed, the therapist expertly focused on the areas I felt required more work and did a good job removing the knots in my sore and tight muscles.

I could almost experience its effects straightaway as I felt lighter and less weary — without any of the stickiness associated with massages. Now, who wouldn’t want to be pampered like that during the festive season?
