Grand launch for new BMW models
SINGAPORE — New-car launches are often about more features and power; and not quite about emissions and weight. BMW’s seventh-generation 5 Series, which was launched at the MES Theatre at Mediacorp on Friday (March 3), ticks all those boxes in spades.

Two models were available at launch: The 530i and the 540i.

The former is equipped with a 2-litre, 4 cylinder engine producing 252hp, CO2 emissions of 141g/km and a 0-100kmh time of 6.2 seconds. The 540i is powered by a 3-litre, 6-cylinder engine producing 340hp, CO2 emissions of 164g/km and a 0-100kmh time of 5.1 seconds.
The BMW 530i costs S$280,800, while the BMW 540i costs S$355,800, including COE.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Horst Herdtle, managing director of Performance Motors Limited, said that BMW sold 2.1 million units of its sixth-generation 5 Series. “The seventh-generation 5 Series ... represents a technological leap forward and exemplifies our quest for modern mobility,” he said.
