As part of a company-wide drive to place sustainability at the core of future business operations, Volvo says it intends to sell a total of up to one million electrified cars by 2025.
How does it intend to achieve this lofty target? The plan is to offer at least two hybrid versions of every model in its range and release its first all-electric car in 2019.
Like many car manufacturers, the firm has developed common vehicle architectures that will form the basis for a variety of vehicles in its lineup.
In Volvo’s case, its Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) — for larger cars like its 90 and 60 series — and Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) will be able to incorporate either hybrid or fully electric car technology. CMA will form the basis for its new 40 series cars.
Volvo’s sustainability goals include having climate-neutral operations by 2025.
