7 hawker stalls celebrities willl queue at

Celebrities such as Thomas Ong and Rozz Lee reveal their favourite hawker stalls.

SINGAPORE - Celebrities are no strangers to the finer things in life but when it comes to comfort food, nothing hits the spot like hawker fare. From bak chor mee to Western grub, here are some of their favourite dishes and food haunts.

Thomas Ong loves his lor mee

If you follow Thomas on Instagram, you will know that the actor takes his food very seriously. We reckon 60 per cent of the photos on his feed are food-related, and one of the more commonly-seen dishes is lor mee. A loyal customer of Fu Chun Laksa Lor Mee (left) at Eunos Crescent and Food Market, Thomas likes his order with fried fish and braised pork belly. Another of his favourites is the lor mee at Xin Mei Xiang Zheng Zong Lor Mee at Old Airport Road Food Centre. Dark, gooey but not overly starchy, it comes topped with generous chunks of fish and is best eaten with a dash of vinegar. chilli and minced garlic.

DJ Rosalyn Lee needs her fried Hokkien mee fix

"Mindblowing” is how Rozz would describe Kim's Famous Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee. At S$5 a pop for a small portion, it may not be the cheapest but the wok hei-laden noodles come with a generous serving of prawns, squid and free flow of pork lard. Though it’s not on the menu (and sounds artery-clogging), Rozz highly recommends getting the XO fried Hokkien mee with extra oysters, which are lightly pan-seared, because after you try this, “you’ll never eat Hokkien mee without oysters ever again”.

Ann Kok can't get enough of fishball noodles

When Ann wants her fishball noodle fix, she heads to Fishball Story which has stalls at University Town @ NUS and Timbre+. Unlike most fishball noodles, the fishballs here are handmade daily using 100 per cent yellowtail fish meat, making them firmer and more succulent. Having personally tasted their fishball noodles, we can assure you that they taste as good as they sound. Oh, and the owner Douglas Ng is quite the looker too – just in case you need some eye candy while queueing.

Joshua Tan digs western food

Another celeb who wouldn't mind queueing for good food is Joshua, who joked on Instagram that he "ran faster than an Aunty to queue up for these plates of deliciousness" by The Western Co. While Aunty Josh recommends their signature Ying Yang Fish and Chips with salted egg yolk sauce - that would be the plate of "chao tar" charcoal battered fish - you'd have to wait till later this month to try it as Western Co. just moved out of the coffee shop at Foch Road and are in the midst of setting up their own space.

Patricia Mok is into mee hoon kueh

You know the mee hoon kueh (MHK) must be good if foodie Patricia Mok travels to Orchard Towers to eat it three times in a week. Located at the basement food court, the MHK may be a tad oily but the broth is so flavourful you will slurp up every bit of it. According to Pat, the stall fries the anchovies themselves and reuses the oil for the shallots. No wonder the dish tastes so good.

Jade Seah slurps up sliced fish soup

Some may regard sliced fish soup as “food for sick people”, but it is one dish Jade can eat every day. Her favourite is the clear fish soup from Amoy Street Food Centre’s Piao Ji Fish Porridge (left), which uses premium pomfret, or if she is feeling indulgent, the fried version which comes in rich, milky broth from Maxwell Food Centre. Blanco Court Fried Fish Soup (right), which comes topped with sinful fried egg floss, is a close second.

DJ Justin Ang is very fond of nasi lemak
It’s no secret that Justin loves his nasi lemak – he famously challenged and lost to competitive eater Sarah Ow in a nasi lemak eating challenge - and when he is craving his “happy food”, his go-to haunt is Ponggol Nasi Lemak, which is coincidently (or not?) a stone’s throw from his home. Despite the variety of side dishes and exclusive offerings at their new outlets, our all-time favourites are the crispy chicken wings and luncheon meat, dipped in sambal of course.
