SINGAPORE — Straits Food Village food court at Changi Airport’s Terminal 2 transit area has beat strong competitors including those from Zurich Airport, Dublin Airport and Sydney Airport to emerge the winner of the Airport Food Court of the Year Award.

The win marks the first time an airport food court in Asia has won the award.

Straits Food Village, which opened in December last year, offers Singaporean dishes such as nasi lemak, bak kut teh and Hainanese chicken rice in a setting reminiscent of a rural fishing village.

This award was one of several handed out at The Airport Food and Beverage Conference and Awards held in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 30, which was organised by The Moodie Davitt Report and The Foodie Report for the fifth consecutive year. The annual event celebrates the best and most innovative in travel dining in the travel food and beverage industry, and is regarded as the Oscars of the travel dining scene.

Vincent Tan, managing director of Select Group, whose conceptual dining business arm Universal Dining manages Straits Food Village, said they were extremely proud to win the award and gain global recognition for the food court. “We will strive to continue delivering exceptional F&B experiences and push the envelope to create more innovative dining concepts that showcase Singapore’s proud food heritage and delicious Asian cuisine.”

Select Group has also been awarded the tender to manage the International Food Hall at Changi Airport’s Terminal 4, which will open next year. It will be the first food court in Changi Airport to offer nine mini-casual dining restaurants with a thematic ambience and common seating area.

Popular Asian cuisines from different cities such as Vietnam and Thailand will be on offer. The food court will also use self-ordering and payment kiosks to increase productivity
