SINGAPORE — After professing her love for carbs and dining at the charmingly “old school” Katong area, Sonia Chew — who has an “insatiable appetite for new food experiences” — declared: “I’m not afraid to admit that I love to eat!”

Clearly, there is no holding her back from the things she loves. The 987FM DJ landed her job after winning the 987 Radio Star 2012 competition. “I decided to go hard or go home,” she said. As co-host of The Wake Up Call, though, she now strays from spicy food and iced drinks — at least while on air. “These just make my throat feel uncomfortable. Other than that, there are no boundaries I can’t cross when I’m starving,” she said. “I can’t resist food. Even if I’m not hungry, once you put something tempting and tantalising in front of me, I’m going for it! And I think I might be a pretty difficult person to go out with sometimes because I just can’t settle for something normal or too mainstream.”

“Yes, I’m going to regret this for sure by the time I hit 30,” laughed the 22-year-old.

> BREAKFAST: Lemon curd tart (about S$4) from Tiong Bahru Bakery ... or any pastry from there really. The lemon tart is my favourite because the taste is tangy and refreshing. Coupled with the freshly baked tart base, it’s the perfect start to the day for me. I find the branch at Raffles City so convenient and it has awesome coffee, too.

> LUNCH: Beach Road Prawn Mee (jumbo bowl for under S$10). The broth is super tasty and addictive — that’s its major selling point. I personally like to mix pork ribs with prawns and have mine served with a mixture of yellow noodles and bee hoon, then sprinkle chilli powder over it. Delish.

> DINNER: Seng Kee herbal mee sua (S$4 to S$5 for a bowl), from one of my favourite supper spots, Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup (467 Changi Road). The soup base is a winner for me; can’t get enough of it. Best herbal mee sua ever — and it’s healthy, too! CHRISTIE YEO
