PUTIEN’S NEW YELLOW CROAKER DISHES

PUTIEN presents a brand new seasonal menu featuring its latest star ingredient — the yellow croaker, a mildly sweet and meaty fish from Ningde, a seaside city in Fujian, China. This is a rare chance to sample this fish in various styles: stewed yellow croaker rice (S$15.80 for small, S$23.80 for medium), cooked in the traditional Hakka style to preserve the fullness of flavour, and 100-second stewed yellow croaker (SS12), flash-stewed for precisely 100 seconds to preserve the tenderness of the meat and incorporating fresh ginger and shallots to bring out the full fragrance of the dish.

The seasonal menu is available from now till Nov 30 at all PUTIEN outlets.

JAMIE’S ITALIAN VIVOCITY LAUNCHES SECOND GOURMET POP-UP

Jamie’s Italian VivoCity is launching a second gourmet pop-up market in partnership with Somersby Cider that is running only this weekend. Diners can order a range of the restaurant’s famous freshly made pastas (S$7.50) alongside homemade pasta sauces, including Gennaro’s signature Bolognese (S$16), made with farm-assured beef, free-range pork, a splash of Chianti and an arrabbiata sauce. Somersby Cider will be hosting a tasting station for visitors to try its range of ciders, and sell its brand new offering, Somerita (S$8++), a Somersby bottle served upside down over crushed ice.

The pop-up market will run today and tomorrow. Located at 1 Habourfront Walk, from 12pm to 6pm.

EBI MEALS RETURN TO MCDONALD’S

Ebi lovers rejoice — McDonald’s Classic Ebi burger (S$5.45)is back with its breaded fried Ebi patty filled with juicy whole shrimp. There is also the Cereal Ebi Burger with shrimp paste flavoured sauce (S$5.75), which is available only from Oct 6. Complete your Ebi experience with the return of the seaweed shaker fries.

The offerings, except the Cereal Ebi Burger, are available now and can be ordered after breakfast hours at all McDonald’s and via McDelivery.

COYOTE TEX-MEX GRILL & BAR TURNS UP THE HEAT WITH NEW MENU

Coyote Tex-Mex Grill & Bar is offering a Tex-Mex experience with a revamped menu. One highlight is the crispy-crunchy chicken wings laden with Coyote’s trademark sauces such as the zesty orange and lime and the hotter-than-hot scorpion chilli. There are also tacos filled with juicy pulled pork or crispy fried fish. Finish your meal with the Coyorita, an ice margarita served with an upside-down bottle of Corona beer to get the full Tex-Mex experience. The new menu is available daily, from 11am to 10.30pm from Thursdays to Fridays and 5pm to 10.30pm for dinner on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

YAN INTRODUCES A HEARTY PROSPERITY SOUP FEAST

Yan at National Gallery Singapore will be introducing 25 double-boiled soups to celebrate the tradition of convivial communal dining. Some noteworthy soups on the menu include sea whelk and black garlic, brewed using the medicinal properties of black garlic and wolfberries to strengthen the immune system, and hashima with huang qi and dang shen that contains collage to help improve your complexion for a radiant glow. Each soup set is priced at S$13.80 and comes with a bowl of fragrant crispy rice. A signature is the crispy roast suckling pig that is served three ways — its crispy skin, carved shoulder and finally, with the rest of the meat oven-baked and filled with lemongrass (S$124++ for half and S$248 for a full portion). A minimum of five different soups will be available daily, on a rotational basis. Available now till Oct 31.

NEW AUTHENTIC THAI CUISINE AT HOTEL JEN ORCHARD GATEWAY SINGAPORE

Makan@Jen at Hotel Jen Orchardgateway will be collaborating with Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok’s sous chef, chef Yanavit Theerasomboonkun, to showcase an extensive spread of authentic Thai cuisine, with over 40 Thai dishes added to the menu. Selections include phad thai goong, stir-fried rice noodles with prawns prepared ‘live station’ style, pla ka pong sam ros, a sweet and sour deep-fried fish, and popular favourite mango sticky rice. The menu also includes uncommon selections such as poo ja, deep-fried stuffed crab shells, and ped phad kee mao, a stir-fried rice noodle dish made with roasted duck. There will be three different menus rotated over the course of this promotion. The buffet, which includes access to the Thai menu, is priced at S$42++ from Sundays to Thursdays and S$65 for Fridays and Saturdays. The new Thai dishes are available till Sept 30.

POLAR PUFFS & CAKES LAUNCHES NEW CHARITY CAKES

To celebrate Polar Puffs & Cakes’ 90th anniversary, the bakery has launched two new charity cakes Movie Magic and Pop-pilicious, which are designed by Polar’s first brand ambassadors actor Tosh Zhang and Fly Entertainment founder Irene Ang, respectively. Zhang’s Movie Magic cake is a sponge cake layered with chocolate butter cream and edible icing sugar sheet, whereas Ang’s Pop-pilicious is a vanilla sponge cake topped with popcorn-inspired buttercream that melts in your mouth. Each cake costs S$24.80, and hundred per cent of the nett sale proceeds will be donated to the Very Special Arts Singapore, a charity dedicated providing individuals with special needs access to the arts.

HEADS UP: ILLIDO AT THE CLIFF PRESENTS WHITE DIAMONDS OF THE KITCHEN

Only available for three months a year, white truffles are also referred to as the “White Diamonds” of the kitchen, and they will be the main ingredient featured at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa’s ilLido at the Cliff from Oct 1. Chef Simone Fraternali will be preparing dishes such as foie gras, porcini mushroom and figs sfogliatine (a puff pastry) with white truffle (S$42++) and Chanterelle mushroom, and pumpkin casserole with poached egg, parma ham and white truffle (S$42++). End your meal on a sweet note with a special dessert creation — hazelnut and robiola cheese with vanilla gelato and white truffle (S$38++).

HEADS UP: BROZEIT VIVOCITY’S OKTOBERFEST PARTY WEEKEND

Onto its 10th edition, Brozeit Vivocity’s Oktoberfest party returns next Thursday from Sept 29 to Oct 2 with a lively German band. But you can already get into the festivities. The restaurant brings back its iconic once-a-year brew: Spatenbräu Oktoberfest Ur-Märzen (S$15 for 0.5L and S$28 for 1L), an amber-coloured and roasted malt flavoured beer. A new addition to Brozeit’s menu is a 100cm-long Meter-Wurst (S$38 for two) weighing over half-a-kilo, stuffed with tasty paprika-cheese filling and served with wedges and sauerkraut. For the more adventurous, there is also the Oktoberfest platter (S$128 for sharing) that will satisfy any carnivorous-cravings with beer-infused bavarian honey ribs, oven-roasted pork knuckle and roast spring chicken, accompanied by sausages, wedges and sauerkraut.
