14 of our fave Happy Hour deals

SINGAPORE — We get it, Singapore isn’t the most affordable place on earth, especially when it comes to securing your libations. Thankfully, there are still some spots with reasonably priced brews, so treating your Dad to a few pints (and good grub) this special weekend won’t put a dent in your wallet. Here are some fantastic joints to hit up at Happy Hour. ANNETTE TAN

SINGAPORE — We get it, Singapore isn’t the most affordable place on earth, especially when it comes to securing your libations. But here’s a list of some fantastic joints to hit up at Happy Hour, when the drinks are more sensibly priced and the grub to go along with is pretty darn good.

The 1925 Microbrewery & Restaurant (369 Jalan Besar, Tel: 6294 9215)

Happy hour here runs from 2pm to 6pm from Sunday to Thursday, and then from 10pm until closing. That’s when a rotating list of craft beers and resident and imported brews go for S$5 for a half pint and S$10 for full pints. Try the house-brewed Small Monster ale that boasts citrusy endnotes or the Manuka Stout Limited Edition that harbours hints of espresso and Manuka honey. These are great for washing down dishes from the hipster pub grub menu like seaweed fries (S$9) and crispy rashers of bacon sprinkled with dried chilli and served with grilled pineapple (S$12).

Gemmills (110 Amoy Street #01-02, Tel: 6221 5564)

From Monday to Thursday, Happy Hour — which runs from 5pm to 7pm — will get you buckets of five beers for S$50 each and S$10 glasses of prosecco and wines. Happy Hour on Fridays is extra special, with an extension to 8pm and free bar snacks such as a selection of bruschettas, arancini (Italian fried rice balls), olives and spiced nuts.

Moosehead Kitchen & Bar (110 Telok Ayer Street, Tel: 6636 8055)

Happy hour starts at 2.30pm and runs till 6pm at this compact establishment. In addition to beer specials (Moritz Pilsner for S$9 a bottle or S$40 for a bucket of five bottles; Little Creatures Bright Ale for S$10 a bottle and S$45 for a bucket of five), is a respectable menu of small bites. Think shoestring fries served with garlic aioli (S$5) and a quiche of the day with mixed leaf salad (S$8).

Jamie’s Italian (#01-04 Forum The Shopping Mall, Tel: 6655 7676)

At its outlets in Forum the Shopping Mall and Vivocity, Jamie’s Italian offers one-for-one deals on beers such as Archipelago Evviva L’Italia and house pour wines on weekdays, from 3pm to 7pm. While you’re at it, nosh on easy eats like crispy squid (S$12) and a selection of cured meats served on wooden planks (S$15.50 per person).

&Sons (#01-19 China Street Central, 20 Cross Street)

Experience la dolce vita at this plush Venetian bar on weekdays, with a bucket of five Italian beers for S$35 until 8pm and S$80 bottles of Belucchi sparkling wine until 1am. From 5pm on Wednesdays, martinis are sold at just S$8 each. We are also fans of its delicious small plates, including the homemade salami platter (S$22) and smoked caciocavallo (an Italian cheese made with cow’s milk) with honey and walnuts (S$19)

Humpback (18–20 Bukit Pasoh Road, Tel: 9772 9896)

The hours between 5pm and 8pm daily are the happiest for oyster lovers at this cheerful Seattle-inspired bar and restaurant. Plump oysters imported directly from farms in the Pacific Northwest of the USA go for S$2 to S$3 each, while cocktails go for S$14 and wines for S$13 a glass. It gets even happier on Mondays and public holidays when happy hour prices extend until midnight.

The Black Swan (19 Cecil Street, Tel: 6438 3757)

Oyster lovers in the CBD can get their fix at The Black Swan, where freshly shucked molluscs are sold at S$2 a piece along with S$11 glasses of Stella Artois from 5pm to 8pm on weekdays. At its sister cocktail lounge The Powder Room, bespoke cocktails go for S$12 a glass from 5pm to 9pm on weekdays.

L’Entrecote Wine Bar (37 Duxton Hill, Tel: 6690 7561)

There is something particularly charming about the cobblestoned alley that is Duxton Hill. And from Tuesday to Sunday, between 5pm to 8pm, that charm extends to the S$7 glasses of wine and S$10 cocktails served at L’Entrecote Wine Bar. If you decide to sit indoors, order the raclette (S$29), that simple yet decadent French classic of melted, earthy cheese served with baby potatoes and gherkins.

Level33 (#33-01 Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 1, 8 Marina Boulevard, Tel: 6834 3133)

Besides a bird’s eye view of the city below, this craft brewery, restaurant and lounge serves up a selection of beers, including its 33.1 Blond Lager, 33.15 Pale Ale and 33.9 Wheat Beer at just S$9.33 per 300ml glass until 8pm (500ml glasses go for S$12.33). The menu of beer grub — ox tongue and cheek croquette (S$17), anyone? — is pretty good too.

Kaiserhaus  (#02-06/#03-06 Capital Piazza, 17 Stamford Road, Tel: 6337 0013)

Every day until 8pm, this ode to the Habsburg Empire serves two glasses of Hirter Craft Beer for S$18. The drinks come with a choice of four organic rye bread sandwiches or crispy fried mushrooms with homemade tartare sauce. For craft beer geeks, Hirter is one of the world’s oldest small family-owned breweries that dates back to 1270.

Sand Bar Singapore (#01-04/05 Siloso Beach, Sentosa, Tel: 6631 8938)

It’s not as if anyone needs a reason to enjoy a drink by the beach, but with beers, cocktails, shooters, house pours and wines going at just S$7 a pop, the question becomes “is there a reason not to?” Charge seven promotional drinks to one receipt and the bill shrinks to S$45. Their bad math is our gain. Monday to Friday, 6pm to 9pm.

OverEasy Orchard (#01-01 Liat Towers, 541 Orchard Road, Tel: 6684 1453)

Happy Hour at this hip diner is surprisingly upscale with one-for-one premium alcohol pours and draft beers from 5pm to 8pm daily. That means double the pleasure of boutique gins like Hendrick’s and Japanese whiskeys such as Nikka Taketsuru Premium Malt and Monkey 47.

District 10 (#01-11 Clarke Quay 3D River Valley Road, Tel: 6337 3292)

Quite possibly the longest happy hour in town, District 10’s Clarke Quay outlet serves one-for-one bottled Asahi and Kronenbourg beers, Somersby Cider and house pour wines and spirits all night long (6pm to 2am). At its sister outlets in UE Square and The Star Vista, the same promotion extends from 11am until 9pm.

Loof (#03-07 Odean Towers Extension Rooftop 331 North Bridge Road, Tel: 9773 9304)

It pays to be an early bird at this rooftop bar. Its Beat The Clock promotion offers S$6 drinks from 5pm to 5.59pm, S$7 drinks from 7pm to 7.59pm, and S$10 beers on tap from 5pm to 8pm.
