How to make a Tigger bento, by Jean Yap (@bentodays_)

Cooking time: 30 mins

Plating and styling: 20 mins

1. Shape the rice balls for the face, ears and rear using cling wrap. You can use moulds, but cling wrap gives you more flexibility.

2. Use two round cookie cutters of different sizes to create the white parts of Tigger’s face from cheese.

3. Prepare all the side dishes that will be placed in the bento. Food cups are used to separate the side dishes so the different flavours don’t mingle. Line the base of the bento box using lettuce.

4. Place the rice balls in the bento box, followed by the side dish that has the biggest shape (in this case, the chicken).

5. Place the side dishes in the food cups and tuck them into the bento. Fill any small gaps with lettuce, to prevent the ingredients in the bento box from moving around. Place the ears on and secure using pasta sticks.

How to make a flower deco sushi roll, by Shirley Wong (@littlemissbento)

Preparation: 30 mins

Ingredients

• 120g white sushi rice

• 100g pink sushi rice (85g rice + 10g salmon furikake + 5g sakura denbu)

• 1x Japanese cheese sausage (10cm in length)

• blanched sweet peas (2 pieces)

• Sushi seaweed

• Croquettes

• Vegetables of choice

1. Wrap cheese sausage with 1/3 sheet of sushi seaweed.

2. Wrap 20g of pink sushi rice with 1/3 sheet of sushi seaweed into a 10cm length sushi roll. Repeat to make five rolls.

3. Arrange the pink sushi rolls around the cheese sausage from Step 1 to form flower pattern. Secure the roll with a thin strip of sushi seaweed.

4. Join a piece of sushi seaweed together with another 1/3 piece. Spread 90g of rice evenly on it, leaving about 5cm to 6cm free on one end.

5. Place the flower roll on the piece and roll up the sushi. Before closing it up, arrange and add in sweet peas. Add additional rice to cover the sweet peas and fill in the gaps before sealing it up.

6. Slice the sushi into four pieces and pack them into your bento box with your favourite side dishes such as croquettes and tomatoes.
